I will look for those!! And I didn't know about the honey mushrooms. I often forget to see if the mycelium will glow. I've been slow to get back to my own Substack, but I'm more than happy to collaborate and or cross post! Cheers and Happy 2024 to you as well!

I will definitely reach out! I’m in the upper Midwest of the US (Wisconsin). The only ones I’ve ever found are Jack O’ Lantern mushrooms and that was BEFORE I knew they were bioluminescent. I’ve been searching ever since so I can photograph them at night.

I work in biotech and we use a lot of bioluminescent enzymes in our work, I’m slowly learning the chemistry.

Oh! You should get Mycena pura there - (the basidiomes in the gills, and mycelium glows). Also, Armillaria (Honey Mushrooms) glow, but mainly in the mycelium, so you can capture foxfire on logs. I'm originally from Texas and was able to find one lone Southern Jack o' Lantern with a faint glow. Would love to hear more about your biotech work w/bioluminescent enzymes and if you manage to find any cool mushrooms there in Wisco at some point if you'd be down for an interview/cross-post? Cheers and Happy 2024!

Nice! It really tests your patience - I’ve made a lot of mistakes (still do). If you’ve got any questions let me know!

What part of the world are you in?

I’ve heavily edited this Wiki page to add as many species to the list from the latest research articles (and included regions where found): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bioluminescent_fungus_species
